In Luke Winn's Power Rankings on SI.com the Hoyas actually moved up one spot despite their loss to Syracuse. The Blue & Gray are now the 8th best team in the country according to Winn. Of course, he rates the Salukis as the 5th best team in the country. So, I guess we should take this with a grain of salt.
More interestingly, Luke says that the next weekly Q&A session on his blog will feature Roy Hibbert. This interview will appear on SI.com tomorrow. In plugging his interview Winn gives a little preview by discussing some fashion with Big Roy:
One of the trivial questions wondered why Big Roy -- like so many of the big-time Georgetown centers, such as Pat Ewing, Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mouring -- opts to wear a T-shirt under his jersey. "The reason why I do it," said Roy, "is because the Verizon Center has ice [for the Washington Capitals] under the court, and it gets cold sometimes. When I was a freshman, the first few games I was coming off the bench, and I decided I'd rather stay warm than come in cold." Hoyas sports information director Bill Shapland said that some of the vintage John Thompson Jr.-era jerseys, from GU's days at the Capital Centre, actually had the T-shirts sewn in to the tops. The fact that I didn't previously know this probably kills my G'town insider cred, but how many fans outside of D.C. were aware of the affect the NHL has had on Hoya fashion?
There's some cocktail party trivia for you. But it still doesn't answer the question of why the big men tend to be the guys wearing the undershirt. I guess we'll have to read the interview.
