Review Board Rejects Athletic Facility Design

It’s back to the drawing board.

The Old Georgetown Board rejected last week the university’s design plans for a proposed new athletics facility, holding that the structure of the building would not complement the university’s historic architecture. The decision was announced only days after the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission unanimously approved the university’s proposal to construct the 90,000-square-foot, five-story athletics practice facility during its Oct. 2 meeting.

This isn't great news, but I can't say I mind having someone looking out for campus asthetics. Of course, in the same meeting, these guys approved the science facility, which is not attractive at all. Anyway, they just have to make some modifications and it should be fine. Hopefully, some asthetic alterations will placate the board.

The best quote: "the structure of the building would not complement the university’s historic architecture."

Now, I haven't seen the rejected plans, but I have to wonder if the board was asleep at the helm for Lauinger & Reiss. Sure, those two eyesores are in harmony with the original buildings (maybe if I'm on an acid trip).
