South Florida Scare

Wasn't able to listen to or track the game online. Was it as close as the score indicated?

Yes! I think the IPB and I never believed we'd lose -- we basically led all game, but only a 3-6 points. SFU almost tied it as time expired. JTIII seemed pissed at the performance and that we didn't foul when we had 2 to give at that point. In any event, that was our worst performance of the season, but a win is a win. It should be treated like a loss to motivate for the Duke game.

We won but let's just say that the players and coaching staff were not firing on all cylinders. If we come out like that against Duke, it's not inconceivable we could be down 30-40 points by the half. I don't think that's going to happen though b/c we could not possibly play worse.

So from all accounts, it seems that was a win in name only. Not what you like to see at the halfway point & on the brink of a tough stretch of games.

With St. John's beating Louisville (albiet with help due to injuries) and DePaul's early season win vs Wake, it's about time we post a solid victory in the portfolio. Sadly enough, I don't know that this will come on Saturday.

I doubt it will come Saturday, but that is not the opportunity for a "solid victory" anyway. Rather, it is the opportunity for an earth-shattering upset. We have games against Pitt, DePaul, Cuse, Marquette, and West Virginia coming up. Those are all opportunities, although DePaul looks awful. I think both DePaul (1-4) and Notre Dame (0-4) are on the verge of being out of NCAA contention barring a West Virginia-esque turn around. DePaul's win over Wake means very little. Wake is 0-3 in the ACC, including a loss to Clemson. What DePaul has going for it is a great RPI due to smart pre-season scheduling of mid-majors with good RPIs. We could learn something from that. I'm not worried about St. John's, but I hope they are improving as a program. Pitino better watch out. The Cardinals are 1-3 heading into UConn.

Agreed. A victory Saturday is more along the lines of miraculous. In my mind, a solid victory would be wins over ND, Pitt, Cuse, WV, Nova (although this would be closer to the Duke scenario). A few wins in these games with must wins over Rutgers, DePaul, USF, & St. Johns would look nice in March.

Correction: Notre Dame is 1-3.

Italian, I think that's the magic formula.
