The IPB and I (and Shannon) will be there. I hope we come out like we did last time against WVU but manage to keep up the momentum. I think we're going to take these guys. The sudents will be out in force against. I wish you and Jester could see the student support these days. MCI will be loud and intimidating. If we win, we move into third place in the BE.

Tough loss to swallow but let me say hats off to WVU. They are a very very good team and have a legitimate chance to go very deep in the tournament. They are a fun team to watch because they play as a team and work a great inside and outside game. We had a legitimate shot but the more I thought about it I don't think we should feel too badly about this game.

Bottom line is we had them right where we wanted them after the first half and then looked like a totally different team in the second half. This may have been the first time this season where we were legitimately outhustled, outcoached, and outplayed for one entire half from start to finish. I don't say this to denigrate Georgetown but we clearly were not the better team in the second half and had almost no answers for WVU defensively. Pittsnaugle had a great game and nailed about every shot he took in the second half. He also got a lot of fairly open looks at the basket because WVU penetrated at will throughout the game, especially in the 2nd half. They must have had close 20 points just taking it at our guys down the lane (and our guys like Ashanti simply got beat off the dribble--this doesn't happen very often). Other than one or two instances where we took a charge, our interior defense parted like the Red Sea and WVU got a lot of very easy looks at the basket. This opened up WVU's outside game and allowed Pittsnaugle and others to drain a lot of 3s. Hebert (sp) also noticeably elevated his game in the second half and I think this hurt us tremendously.

MCI Cntr was probably about 80-85% filled (incredible turnout given the weather and with the exception of Duke, the only time this season the ENTIRE upper level seating was open), but unfortunately about 1/2 of the crowd was WVU fans. They didn't have much to cheer about in the first half but they certainly made their presence known in the 2nd half.

We really need an on-campus arena.

Mrs. Jester and I arrived in the DC-metro area yesterday...about 3 hours before tip off. I actually thought about tracking Diamond and IPB down and demanding tickets. But after watching the game, I'm glad I didn't. We just looked flat in the second half. More significantly, we looked tired and our heads didn't seem in the game. It was the first time I had seen that this season.

Anyways, whose taking me to the next home game?

And when I said "whose" I meant "who's."

Anybody interested in heading to the 'Nova game this weekend?

I can't do Nova. I'm leaving for a small vacation in South Carolina on Thursday and will be back on Monday evening. I'm hoping to catch the game at a bar down south.

Mike, do you want to come to our next home game against Rutgers? If Diamant's extra ticket is stil available, perhaps Jen can come too. Let me know when you have a chance.

Welcome back!

I think Nova is already sold out. People on the board are complaining that they can't get tickets. Do you guys want to get together Thursday night to watch the Marquette game? This should be a big one. I really think we have to win this one to avoid a crippling three game losing streak. Nova is going to be VERY tough.

Mike, let me know if Jen wants to go to Rutgers. She can certainly have my extra ticket, but I'd like to know at least a few days in advance of the game so I can find another taker if she's not interested. Did you guys see the articles in the Post and WashTimes this morning about JTIII? I didn't realize that over this recent home stand we've been averaging 16K at MCI. I'd like to think we are doing our part in keeping the stands filled.

Welcome back to D.C., Mike. I think you'll like it here. Who knows. We may even get to keep our baseball team.

And why does the IPB insist on using my last name?

Jester of Magellan said...

Both I and Mrs. Jester would love to go to the Rutgers game next Wednesday...thanks for the offer.

As for this Thursday, sounds like a distinct possibility. I'll give you a call today to discuss details.

PS - I think IPB was just trying to show his international flair by translating "diamond" into italian...though he forgot the "e" at the end. I don't know what all of this last name business is about.

PPS - I don't think we'll make it up for the Nova game, especially if it's sold out.
